Spring Prints and Colors from Pantone

Posted on 23 April 2016

It’s that time of year again when the weather starts to warm up, the flowers start to bloom and the sky is once again blue.  It’s spring and I couldn’t be any happier!  If any of you have read my bio you know that this was my first winter back east.  For the past 12 years, I have spent my days in sunny California.  Where it’s sunny probably a good 350 days out of the year.  In Los Angeles it barely rains and our winter days were usually somewhere around the high 50’s.  So this winter being back in Maryland was, let’s just say, an adjustment.

Spring is a time to shed some of those many layers, put away the hats and scarfs and start bringing out the clothes that make us feel alive again.  It’s time to dress in those adorable lightweight cotton dresses and blouses that have a feminine flair and show off our sweet side.

In this blog post I will be talking about the prints of the season and the colors that you’ll be seeing everywhere.  All of these products can be found on our online clothing boutique right now!  Without further ado let’s group right into prints.

Full Bloom

It’s not a big surprise that florals are at the top of my list.  As with every spring season, florals come back out to show themselves again.  But this season we’re seeing them in many different variations.  My person favorite is what I’m calling the “Full Bloom” trend.  This is where the flowers are very full but the print is somewhat sporadic.  The flowers that are being showcased in this print are typically those of peonies, roses or wildflowers.  Our Sleeping In The Garden romper is a perfect example of this - it's a show stopper! This print takes on a vintage vibe, which is why this is my favorite print of the season.

Disty Florals

This print is pretty much the opposite of the full bloom print.  Ditsy floral prints are shown with just about any flower, as long as they are petite and sweet.  It’s a pattern full of tiny flowers that cover the entire garment just like our Spring It On Dress.  The silhouettes that have this print are usually very feminine and sweet as well.  Flirty dresses, peasant tops and swing shorts are what you’ll see ditsy florals on.

Boho Prints

These are my absolute favorite prints of this season!  Well, actually they’re my favorite for every season!  It’s the secret hippie in me that adores anything and everything boho!  However, when it comes to actually describing these prints it’s hard to put your finger on it.  Sometimes these prints are referred to as “Tribal” or “Ethnic” prints.  I like to think of them as having a worldly feel.  They are inspired by places like India and Africa, who use an eclectic mix of patterns and colors in their textiles and fabrics.  Many of our dresses and tops feature these patterns throughout the garment but also in subtle ways like on the bib of the dress or in the embroidery details.  You can catch many of these details in our Out Of The City Dress, Boho Print Dress and Beat Of The Drum Dress.  These are just a few of what we have to offer in boho prints.

Plaids and Color

You may think plaids arPlaid To See You Dresse only for fall and winter, but think again!  Plaids aren’t just for flannel button-ups anymore.  These updated plaids are introduced in the most adorable silhouette’s of spring and have the added must-have trend details.  Ranging in sweet feminine swing dresses, to tailored shift dresses and sleeveless kimono’s.  You’ll be seeing plaid everywhere this spring!  Check out our Plaid To See You shirt dress finished with side pockets and raised side hems.

Plaids are also bursting with color this season.  Which is the perfect time to talk about the colors of spring.  Pantone just released their colors of the year, Rose Quartz and Serenity.  Rose Quartz is the most perfect shade of blush pink and Serenity is a calming hue of blue.  Our Drive In The Country dress highlights Rose Quartz perfectly and has the added details of side pockets and fringe hems.

There is so much more to talk about when it comes to spring fashion.  On my next post I’ll talk more about the silhouette’s of spring and the 5 must have outfits of spring.  Check back soon and don’t forget to chat with us on our social pages.
